I have only just ordered my kit but I found the following on the Gift Republic site: -

Bonsai trees are small and very difficult to grow from seed. I followed the instructions and very slowly little seeds started to sprout - who knows what the future will bring but I hope I am still around to see it!
Watch out for the high failure rate September 3, 2010

As some other reviewers have touched on, there's a high failure rate with these sorts of bonsai tree packs. If you manage to grow a tree, it's a fantastic, long-lasting and good value outcome, but there is a fair chance you'll end up with nothing more than a piece of earth and lots of packaging.
The instructions are pretty basic - fine if everything works but not very illuminating if the tree doesn't start growing as it should or if you are not sure if a particular stage is proceeding correctly.
